Local shopping
Liz at Lancaster is very conveniently located for general access to local shopping and amenities. There are several local shopping areas within easy reach.
The closest is half a block away: corner Lancaster and Clarence, a three minute walk. There is a Spar general grocer open 7 days a week, a greengrocer, hairdresser, takeaway pizzeria, chemist, dry cleaner and doctor.
At the Dunkeld shopping centre: corner Jan Smuts and Bompas, there is a whole range of shops including an Autobank, a bakery and coffee shop, a hardware, a 7/11, a liquorstore, etc. And then slightly further in the other direction is the Colony shopping centre which also has a whole range of stores including a Postnet, a 7/11, a pub, restaurants, etc. Liz at Lancaster is close to the restaurant nodes of Parkhurst, Greenside, with easy access to Rosebank and Melville.
Major shopping malls all of which have restaurants, movies, bookshops, department stores are :
- Hyde Park ( 5 minutes away)
- Rosebank with The Mall, The Firs, The Zone, The Galleria, The Mews, (10 minutes away)
- Sandton City (10 - 20 minutes away depending on traffic)
- Killarney ( 10 minutes away)
Craighall Park, although very close to Sandton for example, is very different from its CBD business ethos and more 'enclosed Mall' culture. Craighall Park lies in the very heart of the green belt of Johannesburg, a city which shows up on a satellite photograph as a forest - a forest which is also, remarkably, the largest man-made forest in the world. You will have a very different kind of living, shopping and eating experience in the pavement-cafe ambience of the more suburban environs of Craighall Park. Like its surrounding neighbours of Parkhurst, Parkview, Parktown North, Greenside, Melville, Linden, Emmarentia, it has become well known in Joburg for its special character and fun life-style. These neighbourhoods are all becoming known for their vibe of being cosmopolitan, cutting-edge, middle-class, friendly and varied. It's where you will find cobbled alleys, trinkets and antique stores, collector's books and retro items, restaurants with pergolas and open court-yards, pavement café eating, where the sense of neighbourhood really means something. You will find difference, character, style and a sense of the avant-garde. … where you come to stay and play !!
Bookshops: Exclusive at Hyde Park and the Rosebank Mall (open 7 days a week from 10 until 8). Linked to Seattle Coffee shops next door so great place to browse over a cappuccino.
Music : Look and Listen, Hyde Park and CD Wherehouse, The Zone, Rosebank
