Liz at Lancaster Guesthouse announced as provincial finalist of the Lilizela Awards
The Tourism Grading Council has launched a new award programme: the Lilizela Awards which now incorporates the AA Awards programme. Five award categories will be presented this year:
- service excellence
- emerging entrepreneur of the year
- universal accessibility
- the minister’s award.
The Lilizela Tourism Awards were launched at INDABA 2013 by the South African National Minister of Tourism, Mr Marthinus van Schalkwyk. The inaugural programme for the 2013 awards comprised 864 entrants countrywide. And Liz at Lancaster is delighted that, following a thorough adjudication process, our establishment has been selected to be a Provincial Finalist in this award programme.
It seems that the Lilizela Awards might in part be a response to the power and influence of on-line guest review sites like Tripadvisor. Chief Quality Assurance Officer of the Tourism Grading Council, Thembi Kunene, said that some local hotel managers were using Tripadvisor feedback “as part of their performance measurements.” Liz at Lancaster certainly monitors and responds to every review received on Tripadvisor and we are very proud that, since 2011 we have been no 1 on Tripadvisor of 199 B&Bs and Inn in Johannesburg which, given the hefty competition, is a great honour.
The provincial achievers in the Lilizela Tourism Awards will be announced at an event takes place at Crown Reef Convention Centre at Gold Reef City in Johannesburg on 3rd September. Should we become a Provincial Winner, we will automatically go forward as a National Finalist. These achievers will be announced at an event in Pretoria on 12th September.
We’ll keep you posted!
