Exhibition by English artist Angie Wilson

Angie Wilson, a South African by birth,  is showing her recent body of work from 1st to 3rd  December at a venue in Craighall Park Johannesburg.  Now London based,  Wilson exhibits her work here and in South Africa and has shown at The Mall Galleries, The Affordable Art Fair,  the The Brighton Art Fair as well many English galleries.  Her work is in several international collections. Painting in acrylic and using a bright palette,  her subject matter reflects her extensive travels to locations like India , the Mediterranean and the south of France.   Her paintings with their bright washes of hue and structured stylizations of form are figurative:  landscapes, still lives and human figures. Easy on the eye and energetically decorative, they speak of a gentle, sun-drenched colourful world.

The exhibition takes place at 6 Grafton Ave Craighall Park (opposite Giles restaurant at Ailsa Craig B&B) with the preview on Thursday 1st December at 6pm. Viewings 11-4 on Friday 2nd Dec and 10-4 on Saturday 3rd .

One of the most extraordinary draughts(wo)men in South Africa: Diane Victor

Drawing with candle smoke

At ABSA KKNK in Oudtshoorn, Victor chose a butchery as one of her exhibition spaces where she exhibited smoke drawings of animal heads

I saw some of Diane Victor’s latest smoke drawings at the Joburg Art Fair  in September.  Well-known for her extraordinary drawing technique, these were just amazing. Imagine drawing using the smoke from a candle. She has to work fast and complete the image all in one sitting.  So I am really looking forward to Diane’s major show in 2 parts at the University of Johannesburg.  Ashes to Ashes and Smoke to Dust opens on 16th November at 6.30 for 7 pm.  The first part of the exhibition will focus on her smoke drawings on glass and paper while the sec0nd part explores the potential of book ash as a drawing material.

Exhibition Programme
