EB Social Bar and Kitchen
The EB Social Bar and Kitchen is a great venue. Russell Armstrong who has worked in Michelin restaurants is the chef . The food is excellent according to guests at Liz at Lancaster who had this to say about the food:
Run by an Ex Australian chef … tapas style with extraordinary tastes. Try sharing plates of slow cooked deboned lamb shank with couscous or haloumi wrapped in Kataifi (shredded filo) OH my, All in the surrounds of wall to wall books.
With the industrial open-plan kitchen, the 40 m span of ceiling to floor windows giving an uninterrupted view over treed suburbia and gardens and understated Scandinavian type décor this is a win-win for a great place to eat close to Liz at Lancaster. And if course it’s located in the back of Exclusive Books – South Africa’s premiere bookshops.
There’s an extensive wine list which has been put together by wine fundis Michael Fridjhon and Carrie Adams. And in keeping with bookstore theme, the cocktails are named after famous works of literature like Vanity Fair and Pride and Prejudice.
The Royale is a new kid on the block located at 357 Jan Smuts Avenue, Craighall Park next to the St. Albans Centre. It’s colourful and stylish and very retro – based on the Pre-Castro Cuban era. There are giant palms, fab tropical wallpaper and a great courtyard at the back. It’s the new cool place for a cocktail or a delicious Cuban style meal.
